Liberal Democrats - Winning for Hampshire

Fair deal for older people

11.08.17am GMT Wed 9th Feb 2005

Liberal Democrats want a better deal for older people.

The Lib Dems are part of the Government in Scotland where free personal care has been introduced. The party wants to see the policy extended across the UK.

In Hampshire, the Conservatives have been forced into a U-turn by Liberal Democrat pressure. They now agree to use all the government money given to the County Council for Care Services to improve services such as care for the elderly.

Initially the Conservatives, backed by Labour, had refused to agree to pass on all the cash.
