Liberal Democrats - Winning for Hampshire

No to ID cards in 2006

10.58.44am GMT Sat 24th Dec 2005

As a lame-duck Government struggles to get its flagship plans past its own MPs, Liberal Democrats are stepping up their campaign to fight plans for Identity Cards.

The cards would cost millions of pounds of taxpayers money to introduce. AND we will then have to pay a fee to have one. The total cost for a family in tax and fees could be as much as a thousand pounds.

And what is more, it is widely acknowledged that they wont work in the fight against terrorism. Even Britain's former spy-chief Stella Rimington has said they are a waste of money.
