Liberal Democrats - Winning for Hampshire

Save our post offices

9.26.00am GMT Tue 5th Feb 2008

ADAM CAREW, the Lib Dem Parliamentary Campaigner, has condemned the Post Office's decision to close many Post Offices across Hampshire.

Adam Carew said "Post Offices all over Hampshire are vital to the community it serves and residents are right to be outraged."

Thousands of post offices have been closed under both Labour and Conservative Governments

Hampshire Lib Dems are now calling on Hampshire County Council to step in to save them.

"Three years ago the Liberal Democrats called on Hampshire to support the local Post Offices by providing many of their services through them."

"But Tory Hampshire has not listened."

"Post Offices could become one stop shops for the County and District Councils. They could provide things like Blue Disabled Badges currently given out by the County. This would help these vital local facilities survive."

Post Office closures are part of the Government scheme to axe 2500 POs across the UK, on top of the 4000 closed by Tony Blair and 2500 closed by the Tories when they were last in power."

"Residents of Hampshire will be wondering which Post Offices will be next."
