9.00.00am GMT Mon 18th Feb 2008

Hampshire County Council are among the Top 10 WORST local authorities in the UK, for Council Tax and value for money according to the Government figures released today.

In a UK list produced by Local Government Minister John Healey - Hampshire was singled out as providing poor value for money in terms of the council tax levels it charges.

According to the Government, residents in band B or D could get council tax cuts of up to a £36 per year or better services if Conservative run Hampshire County Council were more efficient.

Lib Dem County Councillor and would be MP for East Hants - Adam Carew said "Its no surprise the Government have named and shamed Conservative run Hampshire County Council as being in the UK's top 10 worst authorities for council tax and value for money.

It is a disgrace that the Tories are spending over £40 million of tax payers money on making over County Offices in Winchester when they are closing care homes and making savage cuts to our buses, libraries and CAB.
